Product Description

Based on my best-selling Using Pictures to Teach Reading Skills series comes an easy way to review reading skills that is accessible to ALL students. Each page in this resource includes one high-interest picture and four open-ended reading skill tasks based around the picture. Every page includes an inference section, but you will find that all of the tasks rely upon students' inference skills!

This resource also includes DIGITAL ACCESS via Google Slides for use in Google Classroom.

The following reading skills are reviewed in this resource:

  • Inference
  • Sequencing
  • Cause & Effect
  • Compare & Contrast
  • Fact & Opinion
  • Prediction
  • Story Elements
  • Characters
  • Point of View
  • Literal vs. Inferential
  • Main Idea & Details

What makes this different from my other Using Pictures resources? This open-ended format is based on the popular anchor charts I create with my class. They do not include passages that students have to read and respond to. Instead, students are using their inference skills to find cause and effect relationships within a picture, imagine the sequence of events that formed the event in the picture, compare one picture to another picture, etc.

The images print well in color OR black and white. I do encourage you to project or show a color image for students so that they can make even more observations.

This resource does not include an answer key, but I have included three sample pages that have been completed. Since all of the tasks are open ended, there are many, many justifiable answers. These tasks are meant to encourage kids to think outside the box! You will be amazed at what they come up with and how they can then apply it to their reading.

These printables are perfect for whole group or small group instruction, morning work, literacy centers, and more!

Ideal for Grades 3+ and Enrichment or Whole-Class 2nd grade.
