We all love our students, but that doesn’t mean we’re above tricking them - especially when we are tricking them into engaging in higher order thinking! *insert maniacal laughter here*
I originally created this “Who Am I?” gametivity (that’s a thing, right?) when I was struggling to figure out how to give students an opportunity to practice multiple skills at the same time. I felt bad always telling myself, “There’s never enough time,” so I came up with this product. I really love it because it allows students to write creatively, engage in higher order thinking, and think critically about important moments in history!
TO PLAY: Give each student a copy of the handout. Tell students that they will be doing some creative writing using first person point of view. Students should select one person, animal, or object in the painting to write as. Then, they should write a brief paragraph describing everything that they are seeing, thinking, and feeling as that character. After students have finished writing their descriptions, they can then read their descriptions to a partner. Their partners then guess who they are writing as.
