HELP!! How do I get my beginning writers to use end marks in their writing?
I was frustrated with the same question until one day, while I was demonstrating in my write to using end marks. I noticed I kept saying, "Think about what you want to say, write it down, and then put your end mark." After a while I was just saying, "Think about it, write it, end mark." I started to sound like a broken record, but a broken record that was a pattern. My students have always understood patterns and that is what I was sounding like. So, I started to use that pattern in my teaching and reinforcing of using end marks. My students caught on. When they write, I hear them saying, "Think about it, write it, end mark." Try it! I bet it'll catch on with your students as well!
You'll get the four posters shown here. Three to use during your teaching and one to post once your students know the pattern.
