Common Core Standard- ELA- Key Ideas and Details 5.1: Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
There are two pages for students. The first explains quotations and how to use them to support ones answers. The second may be used by students in order to refer to the text as a basis for their answer.
The teacher must write his or her own questions in the "Questions" column, pertaining to the text being used.
Answers to questions should not be “right there” in the text. The student must use their background knowledge, as well as clues from the text, to infer the answers.
The teacher may instruct students to highlight or underline quotations from the text within the literature/article.
