Do your students struggle to identify the slope and the y-intercept from word problems? Do they get confused about when the values are negative?
This activity will help!
It takes the students through four scenarios with three sets of data each. There is a mix of positive and negative y-intercepts in terms that the students can relate to.
For each scenario, the students identify the independent and dependent variables, complete t-tables, identify the rate of change and starting amount, write the equation, graph the equations on the same grid and answer two application questions.
This is an accessible assignment for struggling students that allows for many "ah-ha" moments as they make the connections between the representations.
