Comprehending non-fiction is a complicated "dance" between thinking and reading. This worksheet, which can be used with any text, prompts students to engage their thinking before, during, and after reading non-fiction. There is a regular version and modified version of this worksheet included. In the modified version, several strategies are listed for the students and they circle one/ones they used. This would be good for ESL or special needs students, or you may want to use the modified version for all students when they are first trying out these strategies. Then you could use the worksheet with no prompts to see if your students have internalized the strategies.
