Using Strand Language (Diction Strands)
Using strand language (or diction strands, metaphorical diction) in students' own prose (and in your own teacher handouts!) can offer essays and any writing a boost in subtly and cleverly employing the language of the purpose of your essay.
Or, said a different way: teachers, help lift your students' prose as they prepare to soar through a new metaphorical stratosphere, elevating not only their sentences but also their purpose toward a rhetorical apex!
My students love learning this method of coding a witty "inside joke" for the attentive reader. Once they learn it, they may try using it everywhere!
This one-page sheet describes, discusses the purpose of, and offers a step by step process as well as examples for using strand language.
Please let me know how it works for you and your students!
