This three page worksheet gives your students practice with using a table of contents. The table of contents is about automobiles, which they should find interesting. Below the table of contents are eight questions which require students to locate chapter headings and starting page numbers for certain topics. The activity should be challenging for students, but also achievable, because their reading strategy will be to use the information provided in the table of contents. This worksheet has eight questions, but you could easily add more, by following my questioning format and slotting different topics from the table.
The worksheet is a great resource if you are teaching your students to locate information quickly for the purpose of researching. On the other hand, you might simply wish to teach them to use a table of contents instead of leafing through an entire book to find information they need. Additionally, the worksheet is a helpful test preparation, because standardized tests sometimes include questions in which students must refer to a table of contents in order to answer correctly.
The fourth page is the answer key. I also made an upper and lower border with cars. Being a word document this product lends itself to editing and running off copies.
