Starting with Treasure’s Unit 2 (Neighborhoods & Communities), each story has an assigned clipart sheet. The clipart/vocabulary has been chosen based on the story’s weekly vocabulary list and other words in the story.
Part 1: To start (I usually do it on Mondays), pass out the sheet with the week’s vocabulary/clipart. Pair the students and have them highlight (crayon or marker) the part of speech that is being studied for the week (let’s say it’s common nouns). After 3 minutes, whole class reveals the correct common nouns.
Part 2: students label the part of speech for the remaining clipart/vocabulary. After 3 or 4 minutes reveal the part of speech for the clipart that was not highlighted.
Part 3: students cut and paste only the highlighted words and select any 3 words to write their own elaborate sentences.
Clipart/vocabulary are provided for each story in Treasures which include unit 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Unit 1 is omitted to allow teacher to teach guided lessons on common and proper nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Practice sheets for unit 1 have been provided.
