Using Shakur's "If I Fail," students will understand how connotative diction affects the meaning of a poem.
Activity can be used for a mini-lesson on close reading strategies, test preparation, independent work or in-class assessment.
Anticipatory Set - students will consider the connotation and connections of several words that appear in the poem
Activity- students will use understanding of connotative diction to put the jumbled poem in the correct order, create visual representations and paraphrases of grouped lines and finally, analyze the poem for meaning (theme)
