Description

Students need to be able to use unit rates to find equivalent ratios. For example, if it costs $15 for 5 sandwiches, how much do 2 sandwiches cost? There's no good multiplier/divisor to use, but a unit rate of $3 per sandwich makes this an easy problem!

To get kids enthused about this concept, they need more than just a worksheet!

With this activity students get up and moving, talking and writing about Math. Each student receives a card. There are 30 cards, but you don’t have to use all of them. Students must find the other students with an equivalent rate/ratio on their cards.

There may be as many as 5 students in each group with equivalent ratios. (It’s up to you whether or not you want to specifically tell them that unit rates are necessary, or if you want them to discover this on their own.)

Once students think they have correctly formed their groups, you can quickly check their work by using the super easy key that you will receive.

After you have confirmed that the students have correctly formed their groups, they should obtain the ½ sheet written response portion of the assignment. You may have them compose their answers together or independently.

Want more? You can also get this item as part of the 6-in-1 Unit Rate Bundle.

Your students will love these fun, engaging activities using unit rates!
