Help students reflect on the various filters they can apply to comments. Students are encouraged to consider the three different filters- (1) The audience filter, (2) The harmful vs. helpful filter, and (3) The feelings filter. Each of the activities asks students to consider comments that they make and hear and what the impact is of those comments.
This is an interactive activity that involves students using comments they frequently make for each component. Teachers, counselors, social workers, etc. can utilize this activity to prompt students to think about comments that they frequently make that may be harmful. This activity is a great starting point in guiding students to be reflective about choices they make that may lead to negative peer interactions and conflict.
