Product Description
In this independent-inquiry based exercise, students work in groups of 4 to design and test whether or not a paper airplane's flight will be affected by paper type, size, or plane design. Once in their groups, each member is given a specific role (engineer, ruler, launcher, and recorder) to carry out their experiment and report their results on poster paper.

This self-guided discovery lab experiment taps into student's higher-order thinking skills as they use the steps of the scientific method to ask their questions, formulate their own hypotheses, make observations, interpret data, and draw conclusions, which is at the core of the Next Generation Science Standards!

*Please note that students should be familiar with the steps of the scientific method, control vs experimental groups and independent/dependent variables before completing this activity.
