I am always looking for golden opportunities to reinforce my students' understanding of the scientific method! In this group activity, after drawing electronic configurations of the first 18 elements and pasting these drawings together into a home-made periodic table, students must test their own hypotheses about the significance of the period and group numbers. I have included teaching instructions (incorporating hard-won do's and don'ts), a scientific method worksheet, and all electronic configuration worksheets in two sizes: full-sized for a whole-class activity, and quarter-sized for small group activity. This works great, and my students love it. Hope yours do too!
