This activity can be assigned as an independent challenge, for early finishers or used as a group project.
Marie Curie - science
Students must identify the constant of variation and use it to solve problems involving direct variation.
Grace Hopper - technology
Students must identify the constant of variation and use it to solve RealWorld / application problems involving direct variation.
Yoky Matsuoka - engineering
Students must identify the constant of proportionality and use it to solve problems involving inverse variation.
Katherine Johnson - math
Students must identify the constant of proportionality and use it to solve problems involving joint or combined variation. This set includes some application problems.
Each sheet includes a puzzle element in the discovery of a quote by a famous woman who made a significant contribution in science, technology, engineering or math.
Students research the individuals and find the context of the quote. The lives of these women are worthy of more study and would be a great extension project. It would also create materials for a bulletin board.
