Whether the verbals are infinitives, participles, or gerunds - students may mistake verbals for verbs, so I created these lessons and a quiz. The focus is on recognizing a verbal and identifying its type. The lessons do not go into teaching verbal phrases. Still, in addition to being used for other grade levels, it does fulfill CCSS ELA Language 8.1.
- 7 board pages (for displaying with document cameras, overhead projectors, or smart boards) defining verbals and giving examples as well as explaining how to distinguish them from other parts of speech. These are also usable as posters.
- 3 worksheets - one each for infinitives, participles, and gerunds - each starting with a brief review of the information on the appropriate board page,
- a one page quiz
- a word search puzzle for fun or for early finishers
