Description
Have you experienced Virtual Reality (VR) using Google Cardboard? Not only is it amazing to experience for yourself, but it will engage your students in exploring the world in 3D all from your very own classroom!
The first time I used Google Cardboard in my class, the students followed this simple introduction to get their Google Cardboard devices (bought cheap on Google website or can purchase on Amazon or create your own!) set up properly and get used to the Google Cardboard & Street View apps (both free app downloads on smartphones). Students first set up the devices using their very own smartphones, following the instructions on slides #2-3, and then completed VTS strategies (Visible Thinking Strategies) while exploring an animated arctic scene and places in 3D around the world (see slide #4). Other options for VR activities are included on slides #5-8.
This could really be used in any subject, but excellent for any history or geography class, or for literature trips to visit settings read about in novels! Also a great way to include Common Core by having students make inferences about what they see and experience too!
This was SO much fun in my classroom--ONE OF MY BEST LESSON EXPERIENCES YET! A great way to begin the year or explore places, settings, cultures, architecture, etc. throughout the year! Enjoy!
