50 Art Making Activities
More Random Things
This product contains several different ways to present the Art Making Activities.
I have used it this way as a way to differentiate for my students— especially my gifted classes. The students choose which of the More Random Things they want to do and complete in class in the mediums that are supplied for the class— usually pencil, watercolour pencil, pens, pen and ink, chalk pastels and oil pastels.
As a Faculty Head I have used this set like this more than any other way! When I have a staff member away I have the class pick a laminated card at random and they are to complete what is on the card in the lesson.
This is a new idea that I haven’t used yet, but wished I had done this last year!!!! Again as a Faculty Head this will be very handy to use when I have absent staff. I know I will simply print the pages that I want the class to complete for the lesson— I know I will print at least 5 different ones for students to have a choice to complete.
The Random Things Assignment
This is also a new idea that is in the same format as the Assignment in all of these 50 Art Making Activities resources. I have used this type of Format for my assignments from grades 7-10. I have always found that the assignment is more successful when I, and my staff, specifically teach how to achieve at a high level. I always spend at least ONE whole lesson teaching the assignment—what is expected, how to do well, what each part means, brainstorming and providing past examples of work. After teaching I will always build time into the schedule for students to do the work in class time. I don’t let them to do the entire Assignment in class, but most of it. I find that students work independently and will ask for help when they need it at the actual point of need. Students are expected to complete FIVE different Random Things artworks from the list provided as well as submit all planning pages and answers to the questions. With this type of format, it has always worked very well with high completion and submission rates. You may choose to alter the number of artworks to be competed as well as set what media students are to use— the choice is yours and a blank assignment page has been provided for this reason.
