VISUAL ARTS : Crazy Creatures Unit of Work with Super Six Reading Strategies

This Visual Arts unit of work was designed for my Year 8 Mandatory Art students last year. I have updated and tweaked for this year’s group of students and yours.

Our students love doing any unit of work that involves clay—and you can see from the student samples that there was a large variety of Crazy Creatures created!

In the unit are several Art making tasks, Art Criticism tasks and Writing Tasks. To accompany each lesson there are the Super Six Reading Strategies— Making Connections, Predicting, Visualising, Summarising, Monitoring and Questioning.
I hope your students enjoy this unit as much as ours have.

The pages are deliberately doubled in this resource - one version has a coloured background to make it easier to read from the IWB, and the other is a printable version. In my own version I include links to background music and other relevant materials to make the unit as engaging as possible for my students (although all they want to do is know when they get to play with the clay!!!!)
