For those of us who use Comprehensible Input, following the TPRS® (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) method of instruction, having students out or being absent ourselves, presents significant issues in getting this comprehensible input to our students.
This presentation is for use as practice, when you need lesson plans for a substitute or to help a student make-up missed class time. It provides auditory and visual input for basic vocabulary and can help introduce new vocabulary, with basic questions, pronunciation practice and short quizzes, even if your substitute does not know Spanish.
This is the thirteenth of a series of 13 presentations and 2 stories that are based upon the “Vocabulary List for the Classical TPR Phase” found in Appendix D of Fluency Through TPR Storytelling, Third Edition, by Blaine Ray and Contee Seel. You will notice that verbs are presented in the 3rd person singular form. There is also a link to an online cultural resource, available only if you are accessing the file while online. It can be used off-line as well.
It is a PowerPoint Presentation that is advanced manually. If you plan on using this to assign to an absent student, please make a copy either on a flash drive or a CD and assign it to the student.
I make a copy for my substitute who can then project the PPt on the screen and the students go through the presentation as a group. The last activity in every set is a 10 item vocabulary review. It makes a great exit ticket for substitutes. Students can exchange their answer sheets and correct the reviews themselves, making your return less stressful.
