RUSE is a vocabulary strategy that can be used for STAAR vocabulary questions and questions on any standardized tests that have vocabulary questions because it's just a strategy that good readers use. This strategy should be taught at the beginning of the year. I usually have my students write the word RUSE next to unknown words, and then mark off each letter as they utilize the strategy. After the strategy has been taught, RUSE becomes an anchor chart that stays up all year. I also laminate miniature copies of RUSE so the resource is readily available. (Miniature copies of RUSE have been provided for your use.) Finally, since the acronym RUSE actually means "trick," there is a bunny in a hat background because visuals are so helpful for all kids!
