This is a fun way to teach students how to use voice in their writing. Voice Man is a "character" that my mom (4th grade teacher) and I (high school teacher) made up. It's kind of silly, but it WORKS. It appeals to ALL types of learners.
Voice Man's face is made up of 10 letters, all of which stand for a word/skill for adding voice (ex: using a hook, using creative adjectives, including a quote, etc). Teach each skill individually, in any order, with the included mini-lessons or your own, then introduce your students to VOICE MAN!
Voice Man will help students remember ten ways to incorporate voice into their writing! If they use even 2 or 3 in their writing, it will tremendously boost their voice!
I have used this method successfully for 8th - 10th graders, but several of my teacher friends use this at the elementary level.
Students love it because they can doodle Voice Man onto their paper to help them remember what they can include to earn their points for voice for you or for their end of year state assessment!
