This is the first of a 4 volume series of 10 lessons depicting 10 different artists and their masterpieces. Each lesson focuses on the technique of shading and blending using values. Students enjoy these lessons because the focus is not on proportion or composition but on making an image or work of art come alive and giving an image depth and visual appeal. It is a higher level form of coloring using either lead pencil or color pencils. The blending techniques in the lessons allow for turning a drawing into a form of painting when using a cotton swab and baby oil. Many of the lessons come with a reading on the artist and a vocabulary word related to art.
