Having trouble getting your little learners to use vowels when writing?
Years ago, I thought of an idea of writing words without vowels and calling them Alien words. It put out quite a show and was a great way to visually show the importance of vowels. Now I’ve created a great center activity that goes along with that story. It’s a big hit with the kids and a favorite center for all.
Included is a worksheet to write real words, 6 work mats, and 33 pages of cards. I printed all work mats and cards on colored card stock and then laminated them. Then I sort the cards into 5 sets and placed them in freezer bags. This allows students the opportunity to work with a manageable number of cards and to have a different sets the next time they play. The cards are great for playing picture match first, then the students sort the cards on the work mat distinguishing between real words (correctly spelled words) and alien words (words without vowels).
I hope your littles enjoy this center as much as mine do! ENJOY!
