Are you looking for a high interest, challenging way for students to demonstrate their knowledge of adding decimals. Vacation Simulation challenges students to add decimals/money while planning a four day vacation.
Out-of-the-Box has created a vacation journal which includes everything needed for students to plan their vacations. Contents include amusement parks choices, lodging choices, transportation choices, restaurants and menus, plus gift shops. Guided by their journals, students make choices, then calculate the cost of each part of their vacation. The rubric, included in the vacation journal, makes grading the project easy.
Included in this simulation are 24 Financial Decision Cards, which present students with real life scenarios. Each student discovers their financial status and decides if taking their planned vacation is the best use of their money. Also included in the simulation are 5 Writing Prompts directly related to students' individual vacation plans and two nonfiction reading comprehension stories. Each story is accompanied by 2 worksheets. One worksheet provides vocabulary practice and the other worksheet provides comprehension questions.
Vacation Simulation provides a fun, yet real life opportunity for students to practice adding decimals. Decision making skills will be stretched as will critical thinking skills. Related reading and writing components further draw students into the simulation, making the experience more exciting.
Your students will thank you, your grade book will thank you, and your lesson plan book will thank you.
