I was looking through a booklet of things to order for the next school year and saw very similar manipulative selling fro almost $500 and thought that was an obscene amount of money to make my school pay when I could just make something similar.
These manipulatives are an awesome way to get kids up and out of their seats to find how many bonds they can make. Each sheet shows the valence electrons of an element from groups1, 2, 3, and 13-18. You can print these out on different colored pieces of paper, laminate them and have students see which elements can bond with which. This also gives them a visual of what valence electrons are and the proper way to draw them.
