Valentine’s Day Addition Centers and Assessment—Balanced Equation Practice-Sums 1-10 and Sums 1-20
This is a fun set to use during the Valentine’s Day season. In the math center, students can work in pairs or independently to complete the center activity. They will be asked to find two addition equations that have the same value and cover that pair with conversation hearts or counters. The mini-poster has clear directions and can be posted in the math center. Students can check their own work with the answer key. (Students needing more of a challenge can be given a timer to complete the task.) There also is a blank template. The blank template can be used to create your own worksheet by handwriting in your own numbers. The template makes differentiating the assignment easy by selecting more challenging facts for advanced students and choosing easier facts for students who are not secure with their facts,
***You will need either different colored counters or conversation hearts for the center activity***
The in-class assessment or homework sheet is like the center activity. The students will be asked to find two addition equations with the same value and color that matching pair. Students can self-assess using the answer keys. There is also a blank homework template to create your own equations.
