Valentine Addition Ten Frames Math Center (sums to 10) - kindergarten - first grade
This math center is a 12 page resource. It includes 4 pages with 4 cards per page totaling 16 cards in black and white and 4 pages with 4 cards per page totaling 16 cards in color. The graphics are the same for both sets. Each card has an addition problem, a ten frame, and a valentine graphic.
The color copy can be copied on white cardstock and laminated for use. The black and white copy can be copied on colored cardstock and laminated for use. This option gives you the flexibility of using color or black and white ink when printing. The manipulatives can also be laminated and cut out and placed in a zip-loc bag to put in the center. This resource can be used over and over for years to come after being laminated and taken care of in a center.
It also includes 2 pages of manipulatives in color and two pages of manipulatives in black and white. The first two pages of manipulatives (in color) include one page of red hearts and one page of pink hearts. The two colors are for the two parts of each equation. If the equation is 2 + 1, students could put two red hearts and one pink heart on the ten frame showing the sum of three hearts (2 + 1 = 3). The manipulative page has two options for cutting out the hearts to use in the center. The first option has hearts in a ten frame which includes a line to cut on making a square to place on the ten frame. The second option is hearts standing alone in case you want to cut the actual heart shape out for students to place on the ten frame. The last two pages of manipulatives (in black and white) include one page of hearts and one page of stamp hearts. The two different pages (heart pictures) are for the two parts of each equation. If the equation is 2 + 1, students could put two hearts and one stamp heart on the ten frame showing the sum of three hearts (2 + 1 =3). This manipulative page also has two options for cutting out the hearts to use in the center. The first option has hearts in a ten frame which includes a line to cut on making a square to place on the ten frame. The second option is hearts standing alone out of the ten frame.
You can also have students use colored cubes, thematic erasers or any other manipulatives you may have instead of using the paper hearts in the resource. Once the cards are laminated, you could also have students use two different colored dry erase markers to draw different colored dots for each part of the equation. Students could use a red and purple dry erase marker and for 2 + 1, students could draw two red dots and one purple dot to show the sum of three. There are many different possibilities to use for solving each equation.
The sums included on each set of cards are 1-10.
You could have students record their equations on a separate sheet of paper (not included).
You can punch a hole in the corner of each card, put on a ring, and put in a center or leave them loose in a zip-loc bag. You can also use in a small group and give each student a card to complete the equation for a quick assessment.
I hope your students enjoy using these addition cards.
