This Valentine-themed, CCSS-aligned center/seat work activity lets students have fun while practicing how to distinguish between long and short vowel sounds.
As a center activity, students place the laminated candy pieces (which have single syllable words on them) into the correct heart-shaped candy box based on whether the word demonstrates a long or short vowel sound. Then students write on the recording form the words that fit into each heart-shaped box.
As an independent seat work activity (print off the black and white copies) students cut out their candy pieces and glue them onto the correct heart-shaped candy box based on their long or short vowel sound.
The best part is that it is ready to go, making it an ideal product for use at "the eleventh hour!"
