Description

Here’s a quick, easy and fun little heart craftivity that can be used in a variety of ways!

Run the pattern off on an assortment of colors, then for a bucket-filling, writing prompt activity, write children’s names on slips of paper and have your kiddos choose one.

This will be the person they write a “secret” heart message to. Remind them to include a compliment as well.

I’ve also included a “Whooo loves you?” owl valentine template that students can make for their family.

The folded heart pattern can also be used to practice upper and lowercase letters.

Assign each child a letter.

They trim & fold their heart, writing the uppercase letter on the left flap, and the lowercase letter on the right.

Inside they write a word that begins with that letter and draw a picture of it.

After children share their letter, collect and keep in your alphabet center for sequencing, sorting and playing games with. Woo hoo!

As a fun way to practice spelling have children write their word list inside the heart.

Great for daily word work and practicing contractions too.

I’ve included an alphabetical list of 69 contractions for you to choose from.

Teacher Comments:

  • "Great and easy to use product for Valentine's Day. Good activities for a bulletin board."
  • "My class and I loved using these for compound words and contractions!"

Assign each student 1-2. They write the words on the outside of the heart, with the contraction inside. After they’ve shared their hearts, collect for an instant center activity.

The same thing works for compound words. Two words go on the outside, and the new, compound word, goes on the inside. Students can illustrate it as well.

The pattern also works as a simple and super-fun way to practice math facts.

Print off the heart template on a variety of colors of paper. There are 3 on a page.

Give each student a sheet to trim and then write equations on the outside.

This works for addition, subtraction, multiplication & division.

Students can solve the equation on the inside, or exchange their hearts with 3 other students and have them solve the problem.

Younger kiddos can solve the addition or subtraction problem, and draw that many to show the group/set, inside the heart . Collect and toss in your math center.

Be sure & check the PREVIEW for samples.

I’m Diane from Teach With Me, hoping your students love practicing a variety of skills with this folded heart.
