Let’s get thinking about valentine holiday words. Not only will kids manipulate letter tiles on colorful task cards to spell the given holiday words, but they must also use the letters in those words to spell other words. Students are also given many options once the task cards and letter tiles have been used.
Option 1: On a separate piece of paper, write the valentine word plus write as many words as possible that can be spelled from the letters in the holiday word.
Option 2: Cut & Paste, Color, and Write worksheets (one word per worksheet). Cut & paste the valentine holiday word letter squares plus write more words that can be made from the letters in the holiday word. Color the picture.
Option 3: Color and Write Worksheets. This one is a little more of a challenge. Write the valentine holiday word on the first writing line plus write other words that can be spelled from the letters in the valentine word. To ensure that the students don’t write only the easiest words, (those having only 1 or 2 letters), each word has a requirement that tells how many letters must be in the new words being spelled. For instance, the words made from the letters in the valentine word friendship must have 3-8 letters in them. Students can color in the heart frames.
The valentine words displayed on each task card are as follows:
The task cards have beautifully colored illustrations that represent the word depicted.
Word lists for each valentine word are included. All worksheets are in black and white-they can be colored in by the students.
, This resource also provides letter tiles if plastic or wooden letter tiles aren't available for use with the task cards.
