Product Description
Valentine Fractions is not a “drill and kill” fraction activity, but instead is a five page resource that is a fun and engaging way for students to be involved and focused while reducing fractions to lowest terms. Specific words are given for each riddle. The students are instructed to figure out the correct fractional part of each particular word. (Example: The first ½ of WEST would be WE. Notice that WE is also 2/4 of WEST.) If each fractional part is correctly identified, when the students write the fractional parts on the lines provided, a new word is created. Each group of new words becomes a Valentine message.

In the original handout, there are eight sets of Valentine messages; so, there are eight ways to practice identifying fractional parts as well as reducing fractions to lowest terms. Instead of completing all eight in one day, the puzzles may be divided up and used as a focus activity. Simply give the students one puzzle each day or intersperse them throughout the month of February. Answers are included at the end of the handout.
