These Valentine Monkey Cards were designed to practice the plural noun rules with words ending in Y as well as irregular plurals just for fun. This set includes:
*24 words following the rule “change the y to i and add -es
*24 words following the rule “when y follows a vowel just add s
*24 irregular plurals where the word is changed (child/children) or left as is (deer/deer)
Directions: Print singular nouns on the front and plural nouns on the back for self-checking. Use thick paper like cardstock so the words can not be seen through the cards. Laminate for durability and cut into cards.
These cards can be used in many ways:
Make It Plural: Place cards at a literacy center or pass out a stack to each group. Students can select a card and write the singular and plural form on the recording sheet.
Plural Rule Sort: Place cards at a literacy center. Sort them according to their plural rules. Use the recording sheet provided.
Write the Room: Tape the singular noun cards around the room. Have students use the “Write the Room” recording sheet and write the plural and singular forms of the word as they find them.
