This activity is a great way to get students motivated to learn in the math classroom. Many students still very much enjoy drawing and coloring. What better way to incorporate art into your classroom then having students create their own color sheet while still using math.
The following activity includes two valentine mystery graphs- one cupcake with hearts and one valentine owl. Students will graph the points and connect the dots as they work to reveal a mystery picture that can later be colored and displayed in the classroom. All of the points are located in the first quadrant (no negatives). This activity can also be used as a reinforcement after students have learned how to plot ordered pairs or used as a review of plotting points.
(You can use your own standard graph paper, 1/4 inch, or download from http://www.math-aids.com/Graph_Paper/Coordinate_Plane_Graph_Paper.html)
