Reinforce sight words, practice real vs. make believe, and write a response with this fun and engaging emergent reader and corresponding center activities! My "Valentine Rain" mini book introduces days of the week and practices the sight words that, is, funny, what, will it. The story shows valentine items falling from the clouds, instead of rain, throughout a week. I have included two levels of writing response practice. For beginning writers, a traceable sentence starter is included. Students will draw a picture of something they would like to see fall from the sky, instead of rain. They will either complete or write a sentence to match the picture. I have also included two pocket chart activities. First, students will sort pictures of real and make believe weather. I have also included sequencing/retelling sentences and pictures. Students will build, sequence, and read sentences from the story. Then, they will match picture cards to each sentence. These activities can be used whole group or as a center.
