This packet includes:
Random Acts of Communication Kindness list: Ideas for use: highlight speech sounds and read the list for speech sound accuracy; use fluency strategies when talking about each act; discuss each act with a partner; use as a monthly incentive chart to see how many acts students can accomplish! (pg. 5)
RACK Craftivity: “I think you are just write.” “You are just write for me.” See instructions on each page. Create hearts and insert pencils (not included). Allow students to give away pencils and tags to encourage random acts of communication kindness! (pgs. 6-7).
Tier 1 Vocabulary Describing Mats: Describe a heart, envelope, chocolates, and a bouquet using describing features. Place in sheet protectors or use as worksheets. (pgs. 8-11).
Valentine Card Activity: Search through a box of Valentine cards or choose from those you have received (not included). Write sayings from cards on each heart. Identify the multiple meaning, play on words, or figure of speech by writing a definition in the frame. (pg. 12)
Rack or Not? (blue hearts): 22 communication behavior cards for deciding whether the behavior shows an act of communication kindness or not. Cover card included and feelings cue card to aid in discussion of perspective taking. (pgs. 13-16)
Multiple Meanings in Context (red hearts): 35 different sentences with context to define 17 multiple meaning words. Use to show students how the same word can have different meanings. Cover card included. (pgs. 17-22)
Multiple Meaning game board: Game board included with multiple meaning words. Can use to assess understanding without context or as reinforcement (cover spaces) as each word is defined using context sentences. Cover card included. (pg. 23)
Valentine’s Day History Non-fiction Text: Use for listening comprehension, vocabulary discussion, or articulation carryover practice. (pg. 24)
Valentine Idioms (purple hearts): 16 valentine themed idiom cards for discussing figurative language. Cover card included. (pgs. 25-27)
Tone of voice (pink hearts): 6 hearts with descriptive language for tone, rate, quality and volume; 6 feelings faces to match with descriptive language; 6 sentences for practicing tone of voice. Suggested Use: Use description of voices and vary tone to convey different meanings using sentences. (pgs. 28-30)
Candy Hearts Sentences: Suggested target skills: articulation in sentences, fluency at the sentence level, spoken grammar. Give each student a Candy Hearts Sentences worksheet. Cut out the white candy hearts. Have each student glue a candy heart onto the blank heart in each sentence to make a grammatically correct sentence. Alternate Use: Laminate or place in a page protector each Candy Hearts Sentences worksheet. Cut and laminate the pink candy hearts. Have students manipulate the pink candy hearts to place a heart within a sentence that makes sense. Optional Use: Use real candy hearts (not included) and the blank Candy Heart Sentences worksheet and create your own sentences. (pgs. 31-36)
Describing Pictures: 11 Valentine-themed pictures to target describing and sentence structures. Pronoun cue card mat included.
