Description
A classroom Valentine’s Day party is one of the sweetest and most fun parties we have all year! AND, believe it or not, lots of learning goes on, too, such as: writing poetry, graphing, sorting, categorizing, reading, and, most importantly, lots of good, healthy, interactive socializing!
If you are celebrating all week, Hanging Crayon Hearts is a great project to be done as an art center activity with adult supervision needed. Spend time before-hand organizing the crayon shavings and cutting out the heart templates. Place them in your classroom window when completed as a year-round decoration.
Valentine verses are a wonderful way to integrate poetry into your Language Arts curriculum. Use the Fold-Up Valentines Poems Book as part of your ELA time everyday during the week. It can be a partner, cooperative group and/or whole class instruction activity. Encourage read-alouds and share with other classrooms, especially the younger grades. Make sure to include copies in your classroom library for future reads.
This unit is a terrific & effective way to introduce Friendship!
