Students use boxes of candy hearts to learn estimating, graphing, statistics and answer fraction questions. It's a perfect, standards-based Valentines Day activity!
Elementary students love to learn with a Valentines treat. And teachers love to teach holiday lessons that are standards-based.
"This was perfect for Valentines as a lead-in to the class party! I'll use it again." ~Ceci
This activity will have them engaged and building their understanding of fractions - especially:
- Fractions of a set
- Adding fractions with like denominators
- Problem solving with fractions
There are even a few multiplication questions for good measure!
Students also enjoy the creativity in building graphs. This activity allows them to turn conversation hearts into a bar graph based on color of the candies.
Note: An answer key is not included since each box likely has different numbers of colors and candies.
Happy Valentines’ Day!
