This unit includes leveled passages, interactive annotations, text dependent questions, three writing prompts (leveled), and two grammar activities
Passages are leveled for various reading levels in your class. Look for the number of hearts at the top of the page that indicate low, medium, or high reading levels.
Careful consideration was taken when leveling text using an online Lexile readability application.
Passages are visually similar and contain the same content. Vocabulary has been modified for each level.
An interactive “scavenger hunt” in included where students need to annotate the text with hearts, stars, highlighting, etc. This helps them get in the practice of looking for text evidence and revisiting the text.
Also included is a comprehension/discussion questions page focused on text dependent questions.
There are three different writing prompts. These coordinate with 3 different learning levels in your classroom.
There are two grammar activities focused on editing.
The first requires students to edit addresses on an envelope looking for capitalization and comma placement.
The second activity requires editing of a humorous friendly letter that your students will enjoy!
I have used this unit in several ways. First, it can be used for independent center work in your reading or writing centers. Also, I have had students partner up to complete the scavenger hunt of the text. I have used the grammar portions for daily oral language during the week of Valentine’s Day!
Hope you enjoy!
