This bundle contains two products.
One is an activity we have done the week after valentines the last few years when candy goes on clearance. I put equal amounts of conversation hearts into baggies. Students sort, count, and record data together in groups of 4 to 6 students. After constructing the bar graph they work together to construct a pictograph. I usually give them a hint as to what one candy should stand for in the key. Students then use poster board and glue candies onto the poster to create a pictograph with a key where one candy stands for more than one candy. This activity can take several hours. I usually have students present their posters and explain the questions they wrote about their data and the answers.
The other is a similar activity but is meant to be done individually instead of as a group. Give each student a small handful of candy hearts. They then sort the hearts, fill out the data table and construct a pictograph and bar graph based on their data. They then answer questions based on their data.
