Allow students to analyze literary couples with this fun tabloid activity. Students will explain if the following literary couples such as:
Lady Macbeth and Macbeth- (Macbeth)
Romeo and Juliet- (Romeo and Juliet)
Katniss and Peeta- (Hunger Games)
Eowyn and Faramir- (Lord of the Rings)
Ron- (Harry Potter)
Read the short story of the “famous literary couple” relationship at the websites in the product.
Suggestions for reading the story: (1) read the story out loud, (2) complete a round robin reading, (3) place students in groups of two and have a paired reading, and (3) students read the text silently (advanced).
As you are reading the story, I would guide the think aloud strategies such as making connections, questioning the author, and predicting as a whole group. If you decide to have students read in paired groups or independently, model the think aloud strategies with the first 4-5 sentences prior to releasing them to complete the reading independently.
This will give their tabloid cover substance to support their claim.
Allow students to work in pairs or groups to complete the tabloid assignment. If you are using two students in a group, have one student illustrate the cover and the other student complete the writing prompt.
If you would like students to complete the assignment individually, have students draw the cover and complete the writing prompt.
Also, have students complete a tabloid project as an additional bonus to the product :)
