This activity can be used as a fun way of practicing or reviewing adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators. You can print it on colored construction paper and have the students cut the hearts out. OR you could copy it on white copy paper and the students could color the heart designs (depends on how much time you have) before they cut the hearts out. Students will solve and match the hearts to make an equation. Then they glue them down on a large sheet of construction paper to display!
* Now this product includes COLOR as well, so that you can print & put in Math Centers! *
CCSS.Math.Content.5.NF.A.1 Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.)
