Description

These Valentine's Day addition puzzles are a great way for students to practice addition facts in math. There are 10 puzzles included and your students get practice addition facts from 0-20! This aligns with 1.OA.6 and 2.OA.2.

The cool thing about these puzzles is that I have included two version of each puzzle. The first puzzle for each item is already made for you. Just print, cut, and you're ready to go! The second puzzle is blank. Students are able to add their own addition facts to each puzzle piece and then cut it out to play with. So really, you're getting 20 puzzles instead of 10!

Differentiate and give your students the Valentine's Day puzzle that's appropriate for them. You can tell when you download the preview that some of these puzzles are easier than others--making it easy to fit everyone's needs in your classroom.

I have used these whole group, in small groups, with a partner, independently, have sent them home, and during math centers. My students LOVE these and they are a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day in math.

Check out the preview to see SEVEN different ways to use these in your classroom!

Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
