Valentine's Day reading will be extra special with this innovative digital picture book in PowerPoint format. It has a repeating sentence structure plus simple animations that assemble hearts and other shapes into 10 Valentine critters. Kiddos (and adults!) will find it a challenge to predict what the shapes will turn into...a ladybug, a butterfly, a frog?
Optional speaker notes suggest discussing the names of shapes, their colors and orientation, as well as counting and adding the shapes prior to revealing each animal. Three printable activity pages let students draw their own Valentine critter and count its shapes, brainstorm ideas for a story, and write the final version on lined paper.
The text has a Flesch-Kincaid grade level of 1.2. Because each story slide has a before and after state, it's equivalent to a 24-page picture book. The file has been tested in Mac PowerPoint 2011 and Windows PowerPoint 2010. It can also be viewed on the iPad with the free SlideShark app. •••PLEASE•••
