This is a comprehensive NO PREP unit that addresses categorization and sorting a variety of targets which is a perfect language-based activity. It provides over fifty slides of fun, colorful, and engaging content that will allow students to demonstrate their ability to identify the item that does not belong in a category from a field of four, sort through and select the items that do belong from a field of six, progress towards naming items to complete a category, and for more advanced play opportunities to select their own category and draw items to complete their selections.
There is an abundance of language embedded in this unit as it introduces new vocabulary, following simple directions, auditory comprehension, thought organization, and expressive language. This unit displays nicely on interactive media for whole group instruction, tablets and speech teletherapy platforms for small group instruction, or if you prefer it can be printed and included in your literacy centers. Have fun with this activity and allow students to engage in a game of "Name That Category". My students love to use the whiteboard during teletherapy sessions and this is a great way to keep them engaged. For whole group game play, split the class into teams and allow them to approach the board and interact with the content.
This lesson includes:
* A total of 50+ full-color fun and engaging slides that follow a progression of identifying what doesn't belong and progressing towards sorting through what does belong. You will also receive multiple slides that provide opportunities for students to practice the skill by naming the category, identifying additional items to complete a category, and the more complex skill of choosing a category independently and naming things to complete their selections.
