Product Description
Contractions, Acts of Kindness, Letter Writing, and a Contraction Quest ~ Fun contraction practice with a Valentine's Day theme

What's included?
Four "Print and Go" literacy activities that incorporate contraction practice.

1. Cake Pop Contractions Practice Pages

Your students will think you are “so sweet” for giving them practice sheets with cute graphics that they can color afterwards. They won’t even notice that they are thinking hard and writing words that can be spatially challenging for some.
~ There are also two practice pages that require the students to write each contraction two more times. The words seem to “stick” better when the students have the opportunity to write words more than once.

2. A Not-So-Random Act of Kindness Activity ~ Cake Pop Compliments

An act of kindness that we can teach our kids, that is not-so-random,
is to think of a positive quality of another and then write it out on a notecard to that person.
~ There are 4 different compliment card styles.

3. Friendly Letter Writing Scaffolded Forms
{These coincide with Dr. Jean's song, The Parts of a Friendly Letter. We sing her song with matching body movements for a brain break or a mini lesson.}
Challenge for the students: How many contractions can you include in your letter to a friend?
~ There are nine forms for letters that have scaffolding for students in the process of learning the parts of a friendly letter.

~ Address and Line Patterns ~ {3 different stamp designs}

Copy one of these pages onto the backs of the letter writing paper. The lines fold into an “envelope” with scaffolding for the addresses.

{Our school has an in-school delivery program, so my kids write letters of encouragement and thanks to different staff members who work at our school. The letters were really sweet!}

4. Contraction Quest

This is perfect for any book with lots of dialogue and fun for a hallway search. Students find a contraction, record it, and then make tally marks for how many times they find the word after that in the book or in the hallway. Even my reluctant readers were reading away to find the contractions. Yay!

I hope you enjoyed this resource! If so, I would love to hear what you think in the comment section of this product page.
