Description

This resource is the perfect way to keep students engaged and learning during the busy month of February. An Escape Room featuring Valentine’s Day is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon or consider using this event for your Valentine’s Day party!

This 'unlock the box' event will keep kids busy solving math problems, matching vocabulary, and completing a word search puzzle. They will have such fun and practice skills at the same time!

An Escape room is a puzzle game in which students solve riddles and puzzles and find clues to finish tasks. In this Escape Room students solve puzzles to open locked boxes.

NOTE: This Escape Room resource is available in a money-saving bundle!

For all three tasks, students will use a Puzzle Wheel. Students will turn the sections of the wheel to align notches. This reveals numbers that will determine the lock code for each box. Students choose the correct number by using a clue card for each box.

For the Box 1 task, students will have a Valentine Match-Up sheet and a Clue sheet. Using the clues students will fill in the answers chosen from an array of conversation candy heart images. If placed correctly, the answers will spell a word that will be the clue brought to you for groups to proceed to use the puzzle wheel. The Match-up page is provided in color and in black/white.

For the Box 2 task, students will find the path through a math maze by solving problems and following the answer to the next problem. Along the path they will collect letters that will spell a word. When they have reached the STOP box, they will write the word on a slip of paper (or their math sheet) and share it with you. If the word is correct, the team will be able to try a puzzle wheel to determine the lock code for the second box. The math maze page is provided in two sizes for you.

For the Box 3 task, students will complete a word search puzzle that uses Valentine’s Day words. When all words are found students will note the remaining letters that were not used at all. The remaining letters must be unscrambled to spell the clue word. Finding the correct word will send them to the puzzle wheel. This word search is proved in an easy version and a more challenging version.

So, what do you need? You will need three number locks for this Escape Room. Directions are included to use this set without these locks! You will also need three boxes. This can be a plastic or metal tool box, but any box will work - even a cardboard box! Directions and photos are included for how to set up the boxes and locks or how to use a version without locks. You do not need 3 boxes and 3 locks per group! It’s three boxes and three locks for the entire class.
