Valentine's Day! Kids love giving special valentine cards to their friends. Now they can learn a little about the history of Valentine's Day and 3 of the traditions associated with this holiday. The Cupid, Cards and Candy layer book and mini-book will help you bring an academic focus to Valentine's Day. Your students can work on the book in a learning center during the week of Valentine's Day or you can read it with your whole class. It also makes a great time-filler for the hectic holiday week.
***Updated January 2018-- A Layered Book version was added to this packet. Now you can choose to use the no-cutting layered book or the half page mini book. Both versions contain the same information.
Students will read the booklet about Valentine’s Day, as well as make a prediction, find evidence and answer a comprehension for each of the four articles. Article titles- Who was St. Valentine?, How did the Valentine card begin?, Why is Cupid part of Valentine's Day?, Is it Valentine's Day without candy?
The Layered Book has 6 printed pages that are printed front to back to give you 3 pages to make the layered book. Directions for printing and assembling the no-cut layered book are included. The finished book (5 1/2" by 7") has the four informational text articles, each with a prediction, finding evidence prompt and one comprehension question. It also has a word building page and a word search page.
The ten-page mini-book has: (Five pieces of paper, cut in half to make ten pages,) The finished size is 5 1/2" by 8 1/2 ".
