Valentine’s Day: Informational Text and Activities Grades 4-6
This resource begins with an informational passage about the origins of Valentine’s Day; suitable for use in any classroom worldwide where Valentine’s Day is celebrated.
---a one-page illustrated informational text with a list of 12 vocabulary words at the bottom of the page;
---a short list of Fast Facts about Valentine’s Day followed by a “Correct the Statements” activity. There are 8 statements about Valentine’s Day and all are false. Based on what the students have read in the informational text and the list of Fast Facts, they correct the statements;
---a page of Multiple Choice questions based on the informational text;
---a listening activity which includes a short text (seventeen sentences) to be read aloud to the students and can be used with groups or individual students. Students can be supplied with an answer chart in which they rewrite what they have heard in the correct order (the text should be read to them as often as they might need). There are two versions of the answer chart, one where you might have the students rewrite the sentences and the other where the students number the sentences. The latter chart includes instructions for the students.
This activity could also be done as individual work – the students read the text over and then work on their own to put the sentences in the correct order.
---Includes answer keys for all the activities.
I have used colorful illustrations in the resource, but everything prints very well in greyscale.
