Looking for a thoughtful, quick, and creative close reading lesson for Valentine's Day that covers several standards? This one with a real- world connection would be great for ELA or history!!

Do you want a full standards-based unit or leveled texts for Valentine's Day? This activity is included in my Valentine's Day Survival Pack for a savings! Click Here

Does true love last forever? Should parents meddle in their children's love lives? These are all questions that will pique the interest your teenagers!

This would be the perfect resource for exercising summarizing and close reading skills. Its touching “love” theme makes it perfect for Valentine’s Day. I love to bring holiday themed lessons in when I can, but I am always very cautious to choose lessons that are standards-based. This mini-lesson meets both requirements perfectly! This lesson includes a teaching guide and two formats of questions: open-ended and multiple choice. The questions are primarily structured to target common core ELA standards, but I have included some optional questions that could be supplemented to meet history standards.

♥ "We did this the Friday before Valentine's Day--the students loved it! The thought-provoking questions were awesome!"

♥ "My special education students really enjoyed this lesson. The questions used to introduce the article really prompted discussion. Everyone had something to share. ♥ "Excellent tie in for Valentine's Day AND for our study of Night. It is good for them to see a little "good news" from WWII.
